Sales Intern – Anna Lea Glasmacher
Anna travelled from Germany to the UK for a 6-month Sales Internship in Salisbury.
What was your motivation to apply for this sales internship?
Mandatory internship for university degree.
What were your main tasks during the sales internship?
– Inbound telephone calls and emails, resolving customer queries and complaints
– Outbound calls and emails to existing clients and new business opportunities
– General office administration tasks to keep areas up to date on a regular basis
– Telephone and email follow up to support marketing campaigns and exhibitions
– Manage order process, from enquiry to delivery, using latest scanning software
– Maximising of opportunities to increase profitability
– 3 projects planned for the future, doing smaller projects at the moment
– currently working on improving the portal (making it more customer friendly), creating a template for new customer orders and involved in trying to win a big German buying group
– organising the process of Supplier Questionnaires as well as New Customer Account forms
In what ways do you think you were developed as a professional in a business environment during your internship?
I learned so much about the business by managing the daily tasks and also answering questionnaires for suppliers.
What did you like the most during your sales internship?
The team and the amazing support I got from everyone. Also the work is fun and I got to take on lots of little projects.
How did you spend your time outside working hours?
I would play badminton or go out for a pint after work with the guys from work as they were my age/a little older so it worked out very well. They were very welcoming. I would also visit a friend’s stables and help out there from time to time.
Was it easy to adapt to your new environment?
It was daily easy for me, as I am from Germany and went to the UK. There are of course some things you need to get used to like the way business is handled is a bit more relaxed in the UK or some minor cultural differences.
What was the funniest thing that happened during your internship?
I accidentally showed the peace-sign that you can make with your fingers but the outside of my hand faced the person. In Germany, it doesn’t matter which side it faces but it does in the UK and is considered more rude than the middle finger. One of my colleagues then told me about it and we could have a laugh – it was quite confusing for my colleagues before we talked about it though 🙂
How satisfied were you with ESPA’s services and accommodation?
Very much, whenever I had a question, I could ask it and got a very quick reply back 🙂
Would you recommend ESPA to your friends?
Yes, as they were super helpful, very kind and I probably would have never gotten the interview for this internship without them!
What’s next for you?
I need to finish my last semester at university in Germany, I will then write my bachelors thesis together with the host company in March 2023 and then start working there 🙂
