Business Development Intern – Mika Varnhorn
Mika travelled from Germany to the UK for a 6-month Business Development internship in Northampton.
What was your motivation to apply for this business development internship?
Interest in gaining professional experience and improving my language skills.
What were your main tasks during the internship?
Keeping customer data up to date, customer research and meetings, analysing sales data to make predictions/base decisions upon.
In what ways do you think you were developed as a professional in a business environment during your internship?
I got taught how to professionally take responsibility for projects.
What did you like the most during your business development internship?
The work environment and colleagues.
How did you spend your time outside working hours?
I joined a gym and spend a lot of time with my housemates going to different typical British food spots and pubs.
Was it easy to adapt to your new environment?
The first week was unusual but I built up a routine both inside and outside of work pretty quickly so I‘d say it was easy.
What was the funniest thing that happened during your internship?
The funniest thing was me being very tired one morning and out of habit just telling one of my co-workers a whole 5-10 minute story in German (they don’t know any German) and wondering why they looked at me all confused, not ever realising I spoke another language the whole time.
How satisfied were you with ESPA’s services and accommodation?
Very satisfied because they were always very supportive and quick to respond.
Would you recommend ESPA to your friends?
I already recommended it to my peers because it is a relatively hassle free way of experiencing an international internship with full time support at hand.
What’s next for you?
Finishing my studies and hopefully using my gained knowledge to one day work in a international English speaking company.
